This training aims to introduce climate science and health as well as to provide basic concepts of the impact of climate change and variability on various climate sensitive diseases. Through this training, participants could share the various best practices on adaptation and mitigation measures and discuss about capacity building activities at national level.

Surveillance to measure burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs)

At the end of the course the student should be able to:
  • describe the burden of NCDs (chronic diseases),
  • describe the concept and use of NCDs surveillance,
  • design surveillance of NCDs
  • construct instrument of data collection,
  • estimate of epidemiological rates of NCDs,
  • collect data morbidity and mortality of NCDs,
  • calculate burden of NCDs measures (i.e.: DALY), and
  • evaluate data quality, and
  • use of epidemiology data for measuring burden of NCDs.

Course Description:

Biostatistics is the development and application of statistical reasoning and methods in addressing, analyzing and solving problems in public health; health care; and biomedical, clinical and population-based research. This course will cover descriptive statistics, probability theory, and a wide variety of inferential statistical techniques that can be used to make practical conclusions about empirical data derived from public health works. 

The links between Globalization, Women’s Health and  Children’s Health in Developing Countries

Content

The course module addresses the impacts of globalization on women’s and children’s health. It will present both the positive and negative impacts of globalization on women's and children’s health, including the unequal distribution of some of the effects of
globalization among different groups of women and children. The course will demonstrate the need for a rights based approach to development, global health diplomacy, as well as gender-equity-oriented macroeconomic, trade, and labor market policies.
